This study examines the effectiveness of an education program to improve learning in public schools in South Africa's Limpopo and North West provinces funded by the mining company Anglo American Platinum. Overall, the authors find that the investments made by the company between 2009 and 2012 provided relatively small returns on education and development outcomes. However, they suggest these results should not discourage mining companies from investing in education. Instead, they suggest that the companies should conduct more holistic interventions in their efforts to improve education levels in the areas in which they operate.
