This issue of BPSR includes articles on 1) the Administrative Department of the state of São Paulo during the Estado Novo dictatorship in Brazil between 1937-45; 2) the relationship between political finance and electoral performance in the 2010 Brazilian elections for state and federal deputies; 3) the ideas of Argentinian political theorist Ernesto Laclau; and 4) Brazil's federal social assistance policies since the late 1980s. It also includes a research note on Uruguayan political philosopher Gustavo Pereira’s work "Elements of a Critical Theory of Justice" and three book reviews.
