This paper discusses the reaction of states in Central Asia to Russia's intervention in Ukraine in early 2014 as well as the implications of Russia's annexation of Crimea for their future relations with Moscow. The author also examines the growing presence of China in the region and offers recommendations for the EU on how to prevent destabilization in Central Asia.
