This paper discusses Poland's deployment of soldiers in an EU-led military operation to respond to the escalation of sectarian violence in the Central African Republic (CAR). The authors first provide an overview of the conflict in the CAR as well as the EU's operation there. They then discuss previous EU military operations in Africa and the extent to which unrest on the continent poses a security threat to Europe. They also argue Poland should continue its engagement in crisis management operations and develop broader policy in the area of deployment.
