This brief explores Russia’s attempts to deploy soft power in the former Soviet space. It unsurprisingly concludes that Moscow’s resurgent enthusiasm for hard power and its inability to craft an appealing 'message' for the non-Russian populations of neighboring states mean that its soft power initiatives face a dubious future indeed.
