This commentary explains how provisions in free trade agreements relating to sustainability and human rights can be used to ensure that the positive effects of trade liberalization are felt. In particular, it argues that, despite some room for improvement, the EU’s Economic Partnership Agreement with the Caribbean Forum (Cariforum) could serve as an exemplary framework through which sustainability and human rights can be enhanced in developing countries.
