Looking across a range of illicit activities that include terrorism, the illegal narcotics trade, organized crime, human smuggling and political corruption, this study explores the interconnection of criminal and terrorist actors on a global level. The authors argue that the results of the study suggest that there is good reason to question the widely held assumption that criminal-terrorist connectivity is a phenomenon mainly found in failed and economically poor states. Finally, the authors examine the potential policy implications of the study for countering terrorist and criminal organizations globally.
