This paper discusses the importance for an agreement on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TTP) for the US and provides an overview of the economies of the four ASEAN states - Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei - that are negotiating the agreement as of May 2014. The author argues that without a TPP agreement, it is highly unlikely that US trade accords with major partners in Asia will be successfully concluded and enacted anytime soon.
