This commentary examines France’s foreign policy towards Russia and how it walks a fine line between a hardening tone over Russia's intervention in Ukraine and a softening tone, in order to maintain longer term relations with Moscow and ensure the sale of two Mistral Class vessels to Russia. The author then provides recommendations on how Poland could criticize France's sale of the Mistral vessels to Russia, while at the same time, securing Paris' support for a long-term NATO presence on Polish soil.
