This paper analyzes the strategic importance of Nigerien natural uranium imports for France. The author first looks at the historical aspects of French uranium production and imports and subsequently describes the extent of natural uranium exploitation in Niger. He argues that although Niger remains a key supplier of natural uranium to France, the relative importance of African natural uranium for France is declining.
