This 2014 index measures peace in 162 countries according to 22 indicators that gauge the absence of violence or the fear of violence. It shows that the world has become less peaceful - since 2008, 111 countries have deteriorated in levels of peace, while only 51 have improved. Iceland, Denmark and Austria respectively are reported to be the most peaceful countries, while Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan are the least peaceful. The report also identifies the 10 countries where peace is most likely to deteriorate over the next two years: Zambia, Haiti, Argentina, Chad, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nepal, Burundi, Georgia, Liberia and Qatar.
