This paper provides a brief overview of the political, humanitarian and security situation in Egypt in May 2014. This includes brief analyses of 1) the suppression of the Muslim Brotherhood; 2) the country's new constitution; 3) concerns regarding human rights; 4) radical Islamist violence; 5) Egyptian public opinion of their country's governance; 6) the upcoming presidential election; and 7) the UK government's views on events in Egypt.
