This edition of the RAD examines Russia's involvement in mega-sporting events. The first article, which focuses on Moscow's hosting of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, unsurprisingly concludes that the event will strain the Russian economy and encourage, yet again, the misallocation of scarce resources. The second article then focuses on the legacy of the Sochi Olympics. It argues that the Games will primarily live on as a temporal marker for Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
