This brief looks at inflation in India and outlines the challenges the newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government faces in managing it. According to the author, inflation was a key factor contributing to Modi’s electoral success and whether he will manage to tame inflation will be critical to ensure his popularity in the country. Should the Modi government succeed in doing so, it would provide valuable lessons on managing inflation in emerging markets.
