This brief broadly examines the differences between North Korea and South Korea, why they developed into the countries they are today and what their futures will likely look like. In doing so, the author addresses a number of issues including 1) the role of religion and cultural attitudes in South Korean society; 2) the plight of those who defect from North to South Korea; and 3) South Korea's relationship with Japan.
