This bulletin discusses tensions surrounding the upcoming 2014 local, parliamentary and presidential elections in Nigeria and the presidential elections in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso. The author argues that the EU should have an interest in preparing for the escalation of political conflicts in these countries and stand ready to launch further Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions if needed. According to the author, Poland could use its military experience in Afghanistan and Mali as well its political know-how on integration and regional cooperation to also contribute to these potential missions.
