This paper summarizes a conference in spring 2014 on the lessons learned from the EU's NAVFOR Operation Atalanta and NATO's Operation Ocean Shield, which are both tasked with addressing piracy off the coast of Somalia. The paper highlights the importance of continuing these operations in the region, as well as the necessity of a comprehensive approach to addressing piracy in the long term. It also discusses the successful formats of cooperation observed during the mission that could serve as a model for future international security cooperation.
