This publication discusses government surveillance and individual privacy, including online surveillance. It includes two essays, the first of which maintains that surveillance is not only inevitable, but positive, since it favors law enforcement. It also suggests that individuals are still in control of their privacy in relation to online surveillance as they can choose the extent to which their lives are represented online. The second essay addresses the extent to which technology has broken down the barrier between the public and the private spheres and what this could mean for the future of liberty.
