This report presents an overview of the discussions at a conference on the priorities and challenges of the upcoming Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July-December 2014). The participants discussed 1) the prospects for a more effective European economic governance and for new measures to stimulate job creation; 2) the response to the Ukrainian crisis and its implications for the EU’s neighborhood policy; 3) the future of the Common Security and Defense Policy; 4) the reform of the EU immigration policy; and 5) the effectiveness and legitimacy of the EU leadership. The report also outlines a set of recommendations on each topic.
