This paper provides information on the Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS), which is a predominantly Sunni jihadist group that is seeking to establish a single, transnational Islamic state based on sharia law. More specifically, the authors examine the origins of the group, its leadership, funding, and likelihood of it consolidating the successes it has had so far.
