This note assesses the progress that has been made since 2011 regarding the decision to replace or renew the UK's Trident nuclear deterrent system. It also outlines the costs associated with renewing Trident, as well as the potential repercussions of the Trident Alternatives Review and the Scottish referendum on independence in September 2014 for the nuclear deterrent system.
