This report presents the conclusions of the Trident Commission, an independent, cross-party commission set up in 2011 to examine the UK’s nuclear weapons policy and the renewal of its nuclear capabilities. The report starts with a discussion on whether the UK should continue to deploy nuclear weapons, taking into consideration the global strategic threat environment, alliance relationships as well as budgetary and industrial concerns. The authors then assess alternative platforms, delivery systems and postures for the UK. Finally, they focus on what the UK’s involvement at the global level in non-proliferation and disarmament diplomacy should be.
