This paper focuses on Khaan Quest, which is a recurring diplomatic-peacekeeping exercise staged by the US and Mongolian militaries. More specifically, the paper explains 1) China and Russia’s views of the exercise, 2) how the latter has enabled Mongolia to participate in international peacekeeping operations, and 3) why China’s possible participation in this year's exercise could ease Japanese and Korean anxieties about attending the event themselves.
