This brief looks at how to integrate national ownership principles into peacebuilding efforts. The author first examines the conceptual challenges that have hindered national ownership principles - defining who owns what and who has final authority - from being adopted into actual peacebuilding situations. He then highlights the lessons learned and good practices on how to respect and facilitate such ownership, including promoting civil society engagement and integrating domestic knowledge and resources.
