This brief examines the impediments faced by Liberia's 2013 Strategic Roadmap for National Healing, Peacebuilding and Reconciliation. In particular, the brief 1) reviews the theoretical underpinnings of socio-political reconciliation, and 2) reviews the Liberian process’ component parts, how it has been implemented, and what challenges it continues to face. (In the very last case, poor leadership and the chasm between policy and implementation continue to afflict the reconciliation process.) Finally, the brief closes by providing recommendations on how local and international actors might help implement the Strategic Roadmap over time.
