This paper examines the attempts made by Saudi Arabia and the UAEs over the past decade to create domestic defense industries in their countries. More specifically, it explains the key motivations behind each of the countries engaging in domestic military industrialization and describes the main challenges they have encountered and accomplishments they have achieved along the way. The author also briefly assesses the implications of Saudi and Emirati military industrialization for US policy and strategic interests in the Middle East.
