This paper examines the impact of increased military spending by India and Pakistan and their low levels of integration into South Asia’s regional economy. Overall, the authors argue that both of these factors have negatively affected those living in poverty in these countries and that unless both states begin a dialogue on their economic and military relations, the situation will only deteriorate further. They also provide recommendations on what India and Pakistan can do to decrease military spending and promote confidence building.
