This paper focuses on situations in which people are found never to have had the nationality of a certain country, even though they (and possibly even the authorities of that country) assumed that they possessed it. In particular, the authors examine whether a person who loses their nationality in this way, otherwise termed quasi-loss should be protected. In order to do so, they map out situations of such nationality loss in EU member states and examine whether national, European and international laws offer some protection for the individuals who sustain it.
