This edition of the RAD features two articles on the role of elites and oligarchs in Russia. The first article outlines Russian President Putin's model of governance during his third term, how Russia's annexation of Crimea has strengthened his position and what political challenges Putin still faces. The second article addresses the level of competition between domestic power-holders in Russia and argues that 1) it can be seen as a form of pluralism; and 2) that the evolving distribution of these domestic power relations influence Russia’s international behavior.
