In light of the potential election of Dr Abdullah Abdullah as Afghanistan's president in 2014, this report suggests the views of many northern groups in the country, whom he represents, should not be forgotten when it comes to negotiating peace with the Taliban following the elections. The author then examines the northerners’ attitude to possible negotiations and their relationship with the Taliban.
