In light of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza that started in July 2014, this paper examines Israel's policy toward the Palestinian territories. The author argues that the cycles of violence and ceasefires demonstrate that it is becoming more difficult for Israel to maintain the policy it has towards the territories. He then discusses the benefits for Israel of its existing approach, before outlining some of the major challenges to it, including the problems created by the vulnerability of the Palestinian Authority.
