This commentary looks at US security alliances and partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region and why have endured since the end of the Cold War. It also examines the challenges posed to these alliances and partnerships by such developments as the rise of its allies as independent security actors, changes in the international security environment, and the rise of China, as well as how the US has attempted to respond to these.
