This paper analyzes the impact of the 2014 Ukrainian Orthodox Church Moscow Patriarchate election on the dispute between the Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine. Given the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the author considers the consequences of the likely victory of a pro-Russian candidate winning the election and the calls for a unified Orthodox church in Ukraine by the Kyiv Patriarchate.
