This paper looks at the system of succession in Saudi Arabia, the implications of King Abdullah's appointment of successors and the role of the Allegiance Council in these selections. The author suggests there has been some dissent within the royal family over King Abdullah's selections for successors. However, he also argues that there is no real threat to the monarchy from these appointments and that the more serious challenges to the Kingdom come from elsewhere.
