This policy brief examines the background and consequences of the July-August 2014 Gaza conflict for Israel and Hamas. Overall, the author suggests that Israel's offensive was a military and political fiasco that weakened the country's strategic position. He then contends that Hamas managed to recoup what it lost in the two years prior to the conflict, but that it cannot claim a true success while the blockade of the Gaza Strip continues.
