This paper provides an overview of the al-Qaeda linked militant group, al-Shabab in Somalia. More specifically, the author explores 1) the origins of al-Shabab; 2) the group's objectives; 3) it leaders; 4) how it is funded; and 5) whether it is recruiting Americans. He also briefly examines US policy in Somalia.
