This paper examines the state of stability in Pakistan as well as the country’s relations with India and China and what this means for EU policy toward Pakistan and South Asia. The author argues that EU policy toward Pakistan is combined together with its strategy towards Afghanistan and that this needs to change. This is because while it is important to prevent Pakistan from becoming a failed state as NATO troops withdraw from Afghanistan, the EU also needs keep pace with other developments related to Pakistan, including its central role in the emerging competition between China and India.
