This paper examines China’s relationship with the G20 and how it fits in with Beijing’s wider agendas. While doing so, the paper concludes that 1) Beijing continues to see the G20 as the premier global forum for economic cooperation; 2) it does not wish to be an agenda setter in the organization -- being an equal and respected member is sufficient at this time; and 3) China will persist in privileging financial issues in G20 deliberations, including macroeconomic coordination and the reform of the international economic system.
