This paper provides information on the spike in the number of unaccompanied child migrants, mainly from Central America, who attempted to enter the US during late 2013 and 2014. More specifically, the author examines 1) the general characteristics of these migrants and where they come from; 2) the drivers behind this migration; 3) what happens when the migrants are apprehended; 4) how US lawmakers have responded to the influx in migrants; and 5) how the US and Central American Governments are working together to resolve the crisis. She also briefly explores the policy options which the US could pursue to address this issue.
