This commentary discusses the implications of former Georgian president Saakashvili's arrest by a Georgian court in August 2014 for the country's political and judicial reform processes. The author argues that even though Saakashvili was arrested because of his reputation as an authoritarian politician in Georgia, the EU should back the reforms of the judicial system that he implemented when he was in office.
