This brief explores how empirically-based social network analysis (SNA) can help map the fluid interactions found within organized crime networks. However, the brief also reminds us that performing SNA effectively is easier said than done. It requires significant technical skills, a sufficient amount of time, and preexisting expertise in order to generate and interpret data properly. Given these potential problems, the brief closes by recommending ways to minimize them.
