This policy brief explores how the urban planning of Cape Town impacts the way organized crime functions in the city. The author observes that the majority of the informal settlements and suburbs surrounding the city lack fundamental elements as well as access to infrastructure, making them increasingly dysfunctional and rife for the infiltration of organized crime. He recommends that urban design and city planning incorporate crime prevention strategies to fight organized crime.
