This publication features a collection of papers which examine various issues related to the history of humanitarian practice in the Middle East and North Africa. These include 1) the life and humanitarian action of the 19th century Algerian military and religious leader Abd-el-Kader; 2) displacement in the Middle East; 3) US humanitarian relief in Palestine and Lebanon during WWI; and 4) Government-sponsored resettlement and reconciliation in Lebanon following the end of the country’s civil war in 1990.
