This commentary argues that the ceasefire signed between the Ukrainian Government and pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine on September 5 2014 does not herald stability and a sustainable resolution to the crisis in the country. The author also contends that the West should seize on the lull in the fighting the ceasefire provides to increase its involvement in Ukraine and ratify the country's association agreement with the EU.
