This paper provides an overview of the Afghanistan’s 2014 presidential elections, the dispute between the two final presidential candidates, Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani, and the framework agreement negotiated by the US to resolve the dispute. The author also examines the potential for the consolidation of democracy in Afghanistan following the elections and the future of the Afghan-US relationship.
