This paper discusses the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in integrating security, political and economic policies in the Middle East. More specifically, the author describes the regional and international context in which the GCC operates and looks at the main factors shaping the increasingly close cooperation of its member states. He stresses that a closer GCC union will not stifle state individuality; rather, it will enhance collective security and foster economic cooperation.
