This article examines the implications of Japan's changes to the conditions for the mobilization of its Self-Defense Forces (SDF) in July 2014 for the country's military strategy as well as its role in the region. The author contends that overall, these changes will not alter Japan's regional strategic goals and will only lead to incremental changes to Japan’s military posture.
