This paper discusses how Australia and Japan's expansion of their economic and military links with one another have more to do with political reasoning than economic and security benefits. Indeed, the author argues that a main reason the two countries have expanded these ties is because they want to demonstrate their solidarity with like-minded governments and the US in opposition to China.
