This paper examines the foreign trade policy of Kazakhstan and argues that the country is attempting to use its increasing economic relations with China to counteract Russian influence in Central Asia. In particular, the author suggests that Kazakhstan is using its links with China to try and prevent the possibility of Russia using the Eurasian Economic Union to bolster its own economy at the expense of Kazakhstan's.
