This report provides an overview of the key topics discussed at a conference on the US-Japan alliance. They include 1) the implications of Japan's reinterpretation of its right to collective self-defense; 2) ways in which the US can reassure Japan that it will adhere to its security commitments in the alliance; 3) ways in which Tokyo and Washington can strengthen deterrence in the Asia-Pacific; and 4) which countries Japan and the US could partner with in the Asia-Pacific to strengthen regional security.
